Answers About Our Water Restoration Franchise

If you’re considering starting your own business and joining our restoration franchise, you most likely have a lot of questions. STOP Restoration makes owning your own franchise location easy, but we understand that you want to make sure you have as much information as possible before moving forward with the process. We appreciate your due diligence and want to provide you with all the information you need.

Our franchise development team is always here to help you with any questions or concerns you may have. We have also compiled a list of the most frequently asked questions below, along with our answers. Check them out and them give us a call at (844) 422-4425 if you have additional questions.

Do I need a background in construction to own a STOP franchise?

No. Though any experience in construction, restoration or just being “good with your hands” may certainly help, it’s definitely not a requirement to become an owner of your own restoration franchise with STOP. Our motto is “Start Simple, Grow Big.” The truth is, many of our franchisees do not come on board with this kind of background, yet have found great success with us. We offer everything you need to run a successful business, including extensive technical training.

STOP tailors our program to start new owners off with water damage cleaning, light-duty restoration as well as mold remediation. Neither of these requires any construction. You can rest easy knowing that we’ve been in this business for a long time and have a lot of knowledge and experience that will always be at your disposal.

What types of restoration work do STOP franchisees handle?

At STOP, we handle the main types of restoration home and building owners most commonly need:

  • Water damage
  • Fire damage
  • Smoke damage
  • Mold remediation
  • Biohazard Clean-up

These are the five major areas our franchisees focus their attention on. You’ll be provided with the information and technical training needed to fully understand how to handle each of these services.

How much does it cost to open a STOP franchise?

Though the initial investment varies depending on factors like rent, insurance, and the cost of office equipment, it generally ranges from $82,700 to $142,500. To learn more about the breakdown of investment costs, check out our Investment page.

How much can I make as a STOP franchisee?

There are many factors that will dictate your return on investment, including your level of dedication to our training program and how well you follow our systems and plan, in addition to others. As a result of that, we are unable to provide you with an exact dollar amount. However, on average, sales for new franchisees is $168,000 in their first year, $347,000 in years 2-3 with a jump to $477,000 in years three to seven. After seven years, the average sales are $1,288,000.*

As a STOP franchisee, how do I find customers?

Your business certainly can’t succeed without customers. We’ve got you covered. Our proven marketing strategy helps you build a reputation for excellence in your community and increase your sales. Our current franchisees have found that repeat sales and positive word of mouth are two drivers of a business, especially in the restoration industry, where finding and retaining customers is crucial to your success. With our marketing program, you’ll also find very specific guidance on networking, digital strategies and other effective business-building methods, all of which can help you increase your bottom line.

What is the investment range versus how much money I can make?

The restoration industry has long enjoyed a reputation for having low entry costs and big potential. This remains true with STOP. Our restoration franchise has a low initial investment, low on-going fees, and a great return on investment (ROI). Our average investment is well below $100K, which is impressive since the restoration industry allows for monstrous growth into the millions (see our FDD Item 19).

What kind of work is involved and do I need experience?

Simply put, no, you don’t. In fact, most of our franchisees did not have prior restoration experience when they launched their STOP franchise. Much of our work falls into the “entry-level labor” category. However, there is a requirement for technical know-how. During your first year, you’ll have 26 days of training, as well as six days per year thereafter, which will keep your STOP franchise on the cutting edge of the industry and competitive in your community.

How long does it take to ramp up and is STOP scalable?

Since you’re not a retail business, you thankfully won’t need six months to build out a store. You’ll grow with STOP’s “Marketing Trifecta”, which includes meeting local referral sources, STOP’s website/digital tools, and doing quality work. Your first jobs usually come at the 30-90 day mark and will become much more frequent as you grow. As for scalability, the potential is virtually limitless.

How big is my territory and is it protected?

Think you might need multiple territories? Think again. Better yet, keep your money. STOP territories are massive, with populations of up to 300,000 people. You can rest easy knowing no other STOP franchisee can market to insurance agents or other core referral sources in your territory. And logically, you can perform work wherever your marketing efforts send you, allowing other STOP owners to build their brands together throughout the entire region. It’s a win-win for all involved.

How much equipment will I get and is it enough?

This is a great question and we’re happy you asked! Short answer? You’ll have enough equipment to get started! There is a chance that in your early days you might need more equipment for a particular job (which can usually be rented) but you’ll start out with a smart-sized equipment package. As you grow, you’ll be able to buy more as you need it.
