John Alexander owner of STOP Restoration of Charlotte North has created an environment centered on recognition and collaboration. Since opening in 2019, John has kept his employees at the core of his business.
"The company I have built is professional, educated, knowledgeable, and forthright," says John. "We extend kindness not only to our customers but also to our workers because they are the backbone of the business. I reinforce my commitment to them daily and communicate with them not from an ivory tower but a place of kinship. That means everything from being polite (I always say please and thank you, and my whole company follows this example) to involving them in decisions that will challenge them and enrich their learning. Johns meets with his team every morning to strategize, discuss issues, and solve problems collectively, instead of him simply barking orders. Involving his team in decision-making empowers them and helps build trust within their STOP Restoration business.
John's contributions to enhancing the lives of his employees go beyond their career development. He was able to change the life of one of his employees outside of the workplace." When he came to us, he was struggling with Type 1 Diabetes. I was in healthcare before franchising and still have lots of friends in that industry. I was able to connect him with the right people to get the necessary funding to get his A1C level under control. His A1C level has since improved by 35%, and his quality of life is considerably better because we were able to help him. We're also going to help him on a career level by sending him to get his IICRC certification in water restoration. I think this will help him professionally, but it also helps instill confidence. It's also not cheap, which shows our commitment to him and our staff. We always strive to give back to our workers as much as they're giving us, which means going beyond wages and providing value that stays with them for life." These initiatives have continued to drive success within his STOP Restoration business.
